Detroit Proper apparel is committed to fashionable, socially-conscious tees and crews. Designed and hand-printed by Naidra, these shirts are as sustainable as possible. Fabrics used are organic cotton or recycled materials, and I use water-based inks for each piece.

Label Free love is the concept that people should be able to be who they are and do what they love without excuses. That everyone should be able to live in an equitable and just world; that we should not be killed for believing that love transcends. Label Free is artistic, methodical, unbiased, open, fluid, calculated - is fashionable and quirky, confused and exacting - is General Motors or Ford. Label Free is whomever you are. Label Free is whatever you love.

Detroit Proper is not Southfield or Farmington Hills. It's not Grosse Pointe or Redford. Detroit Proper is authentic and unwavering, but ever evolving.
Detroit Proper is about understanding the city, our movements, our struggle and respecting the growth and the fight. In every city, there is a challenge to have equal rights and opportunities. In Detroit, we are struggling to keep the water on, keep our people alive, our animals standing up, our kids in school. We are all in it together - growing together. Being inside the city limits - in Detroit Proper - is understanding that fact.
About the Artist
Naidra L Walls, owner of Invictus Custom Woodwork, LLC is a teaching artist and craftsperson with passion for poetry, music, creating functional art from reclaimed wood and collaborative projects. She consults with dreamers and innovators on making their dreams happen and connects them to space & place. Naidra uses screen-printing and design as to respond to social injustices and to celebrate authenticity and creativity.
